One of my friends started a group called Pallassana and I was invited to be part of it. Then he asked me to introduce myself to my fellow member Pallassanites. By now I had already assumed a strong sense of self importance and was almost tempted to ignore the request. Is it pretty there? can u take walks outside?a friend asked! It sure was looking pretty when I first came here.fantastic compared to India. My office is on the riverside. I have a great view from my cabin..amazing cars..ferries on the river..colourful cheerful people..strobes on top of buildings..LED lit flashy skyscrapers..etc. I was floored when I came!now I have started seeing the beggars..the trash on the roads..the dirty taxis..the garbage dumps..the pollution..the humidity and sweat..the poverty and crime..the language barrier and the difficulties!It reminded me of the day before leaving to China. One of my elderly friends wanted a treat for me landing up with a plum assignment to China..highly praising my talents for getting this job. Palakkad to Bangalore is 410 kms! 1000 rupees ticket charge!one way!HK ethi immigration kazhinju .. the Hunghom Kowloon terminal is even larger and fantastic than Bangalore International airport or Delhi Intl or chn internatnl..!!!I must see HK aiport! By far Changi Airport at Singapore is the best i have seen! Wifi enabled ..extremely organized..smart looking and friendly! He said that people who knew English were arrested..because they were spys. Why would someone learn English unless they wanted to be a spy!! The KGB used to sniff them out. My boss apparently manged to hide and avoid arrest. He learnt English by copying and writing down English books in the night and watching Polish interpreted English movies and tuning into radio stations from the west after midnight . The clarity was low it seems, however he was persistent at it because some day he wanted to escape from Poland and didnt want to land up in the west without the knowledge of English. He seems to have known that it was important to know English then. He said everytthing was state owned. No one could own land. If you wanted to buy cars..go to Germany. The IC fell in the early 90s. He had learnt Russian as his 2nd language for 13 years also hoping that Russia will beat America and become the best place to migrate to. And then Russia fell. He had to rely on his English to find jobs. All media opened up after the IC fell and they were able to prosper as a country. They are democratic now and richer than India. India used to be richer than Poland in the 80's it seems. Whatever happened..the Poles who have been a suppresse race have got freedom and have chosen to be a democratic country..another fall for the communist regime. We both work in Communist China now..both carrying a different experience of communist experience in our homeland. My mind runs back to the CPM regime in Kerala and Jyoti Basu..they dont realise the IC has fallen..its over.. it has served its purpose and is behind the times..Poland has learnt it..China and India is yet to learn! I can see the difference. I report to a Pole!

Jun 28 East of the Iron curtain

Had an interesting conversation with my boss today over lunch at a German restaurant. Conversation veered from very serious topics at work to the east of the Iron Curtain. I will not venture into the gory details of the work topics and will highlight the lighter side of the discussions.My boss is Polish and is a fine man with varied interests in life apart from a thriving professional career with a large successful MNC company in China.We were having lunch at a German restaurant called the Vlandestgorgen' means appetite! My boss explained that he was born Polish and was in Poland until the last 2 years. He had been in Poland when the Iron curtain was strong and at its peak; the 80's being the IC era (I will refer to the curtain era as the IC era henceforth). People were forbideen from learning English. There were no ties with the western world even though Poland was a European country. Germany had a strong cultural influence on Poland by virtue of being the more aggressive race and by being neighbours. He had learnt German as part of his life in Poland as a youth when everything German was supposedly better than the ones in Poland. He speaks English with a thick German accept and I believed he was German until recently when I came to know that he was Polish. Imagine if someone assumed you were tamilian because you are from Palakkad and have a tamil influence in your Malayalam. Worse for a Tamilian if someone tells him he is a Mallu! His uncles had fled Poland in the 80's and had established themselves in the USA and Canada by infiltering. They had been great men in Poland but hated the suppression of the communist regime and escaped to a capitalist country looking from freedon and life. America gave them that. He says that they used to send packages of Marlboro cigarettes, Marlboro shirts etc. He said he used to steal books to learn English. He is a qualified Scuba diving licence holder, is a mountaineer, hiker, trekker, and a successful manager.

കൊറച്ചു കൂടി കഴിയട്ടെ എന്ന് ഓര്‍ത്തു പോസ്റ്പോന്‍ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.സമയമിനിയും ആയിടില്യ.യശ്വന്റ്പുര്‍ കണ്ണൂര്‍ വണ്ടി വന്നു.ഞാനും രനിതും എസ1 കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു കേറി .സീറ്റ്‌ നമ്പര്‍ 48 .സൈഡ് ബെര്‍ത്ത്‌ ആണെന്ന് മനസിലാകി .അവനെയും അവിടിരുത്തി .രേന്തെട്ട ഒരു അച്ചന്റെ വാത്സല്യം അവനില്‍ ചൊരിഞ്ഞു.തലോടിയും .കണ്ണുകള്‍ കൊണ്ട് കൊഞ്ഞിയും .കൈകള്‍ കൊണ്ട് തലോടിയും. പറയാത്ത വാക്കുകള്‍ കൊണ്ട് യാത്ര പറഞ്ഞു.യശ്വന്റ്പുര്‍ നീങ്ങുന്തിന്നു മുന്‍പ് ഇറങ്ങി ..ഒരച്ചന്‍ മകന്‍ വിട്ടു പോകുമ്പോള്‍ ഉണ്ടാവുന്ന എമോശന്‍ രഞ്ജിത്തിന്റെ മുഖത്ത് കണ്ടു.ഞാന്‍ അമ്മുവിനേയും അപ്പുവിനെയും ഓര്‍ത്തു.പാവം ഇവന്റെ പരെന്റ്സും.ഇനി ഞാന്‍ ആനനവന്റെ വളര്തച്ചന്‍.അറ്റ്‌ ലീസ്റ്റ് ടില്‍ ഐ ഹാന്‍ഡ്‌ ഹിമ ഓവര്‍.
രേന്തിന്റെ അമ്മ.കൊറേ മാങ്ങാ പായ്ക്ക് ചെയ്തു തന്നിനുരുന്നു .’നല്ല മധുരം വരും..പഴുപ്പിച്ചു കഴിക്കണം ടോ ’.അതെന്റെ ബാഗില്‍ ഉരുണ്ടുരുണ്ട്‌ കിടക്കുന്ടെ,ബാഗ്‌ പോരതെട്ടുമ്പോ കുതുന്നുണ്ടേ.പിന്നീടെ ഒരാഴ്ച കഴിഞ്ഞു ഞാനും വാണിയും രേന്തിന്റെ അമ്മയും രേന്തും ആവര്തിച്ചതനുസരിച്ചേ പഴുത്ത മാമ്പഴം തിന്നു .അസ്സല മാമ്പഴം.നല്ല സ്വാദും മധുരവും .അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞതോര്‍ത്തു ഞാന്‍ വനിയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.ഞങ്ങള്‍ രണ്ടുപേരും വായനിറയെ മാംബഴചാരും നോനഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് പുഞ്ചിരിച്ചു സംമാധിച്ചു.സീരി തന്നെ.വാണി ഉക്‌ ന്നെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ബാഗ്‌.മുധുകിന്റെ ഭാഗത്തെ സുശഷന്‍ ഒക്കെ ഉണ്ടേ അതുകൊണ്ട് സമാധാനം .ഞാന്‍ ഓര്‍ത്തു.ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ ഇനിയും ഇങ്ങനത്തെ ബാഗ്‌ എന്ത് ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നില്യ .ഇത് വലിയ ‘റോക്കറ്റ് സയന്‍സ് ’ അല്ലല്ലോ .എനും ഓര്‍ത്തു.ഞാന്‍ പല പ്രാവശ്യം എതിര്‍ത്തിട്ടും ചെറിയമ്മ നിര്‍ബന്ധിച്ചു പായ്ക്ക് ചെയ്ത പോരുവലങ്ങങളും ഉണ്ട് .ഉരുനുടുരുണ്ടേ എന്റെ മുധുകിനെന്റെ പണി കഴിക്കാന്‍ .പിന്നെ കൊറച്ചു കൊണ്ടാട്ടവും .അറിപപ്പടവും .ഉമ്മറത്തെ വീട്ടില്‍ ഓമനചേച്ചി ഉണ്ടാകിയത് ..’നങ്ങളുടെ മഹിള സംഘടന യുനകിയതനെ ..നന്നയിരിക്കും ’ എന്ന് ഓമന ചേച്ചിയുടെ ഒരു കമന്റും ആസ് ഇഫ്‌ ദാറ്റ്‌ വാസ് എ ക്വാളിഫയര്‍! അനിവയ്സ്‌ ബാംഗ്ലൂരിലെ ..തിരക്കുള്ള ലിഫെഇല്‍ കൂട്ടാനും, ഉപ്പേരിയും ഒക്കെ ഉണ്ടാകാന്‍ സമയമില്യാത്ത അവസ്ഥയില്‍ കൊണ്ടാടം ആന്‍ഡ്‌ പപ്പടം ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ മെയിന്‍ ഭാസ്ടഗങ്ങള്‍ ആണേ.ബാഗ്‌ ഞാന്‍ മോകളിലെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ സൈദ്‌ ബെര്‍ത്തില്‍ വെച്ച്.അവന് ‍താഴത്തെ ബെര്‍ത്തില്‍ നോ ഇസ്സുഎസ് എന്നാ മട്ടില്‍ നിശഭ്ദമായി ഇരിക്കുന്നു .കൂടതോരന്നന്നെ വെച്ചു .അവനു അതുകൊണ്ട് വേറേ കൊഴപ്പം ഒന്നും ഇല്ല്യാ.

പിന്നെയും അച്ചു

അവനെ സന്യലിന്റെ കാറില് കയറ്റി, ബാക്ക് സീറ്റില് എന്റെയും രണ്ജിതിന്റെയും നടുവില്. ഒരക്കം നടിക്കുകയാണോ, ഒരക്കമാണോ അറിയില്യ. ഏതായാലും ബഹളം ഇല്ല്യ. ഭക്ഷണം കഴിചൂത്രേ ..രേന്തിന്റെ അമ്മ ഒറപ്പ് തന്നു.ഇനി അവനു ഒന്നും കൊടുക്കണ്ട.രാത്രി വയറു നരേയ് കഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.ഇനി ഒരങ്ങികൊല്ലും.ഞാന് ആശ്വസിച്ചു.അവന് ഒരന്ഗുങയനെ.അമ്മ പറഞ്ഞത് ശേരിഅനെന്നു ഒരപ്പായി. അവര് ഇത്ര ദൂസം അവനെ വളര്തിയതല്ലേയ്..അറിയുമായിരിക്കും അവന്റെ ശീലങ്ങള്.സന്യലിന്റെ അടുത്തെ നിത ഇരിപ്പുണ്ടേ..ഗര്ഭിനിയാനെ.അവന്റെ പ്രേസേന്സ് നിതയെ ഉണ്കംഫോര്ടബ്ലെ ആക്കുണ്ടോന്നു ചോദിച്ചപോ ഇല്ല്യാന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സമാധാനം എന്ന് വിചാരിച്ചു .അല്ലെങ്കില് അവനെ പാലക്കാട് എത്തിക്കാന് വേറേ വഴി നോകണ്ടേ.രേന്ത് വേറേ ട്രെയിനില് 12 .മണി തൃവണ്ട്രും വണ്ടിയില്.നോം 10.൪൫ മണി യശന്ത്പുരില്.ഒലോക്കൊറെതുന്നതിനു മുമ്പ് അവനു ശേരികും യാത്ര ചെയ്യാന് ഒരു കൂടവേണം എന്ന് വെച്ച് പലകടകളിലും സന്ട്രോവിന്റെ ജനാലയിലുടെ എത്തി നോകി കൊണ്ടേ യിരുന്നു.രേന്ത് ടൌണില് വെച്ച് ഒരു കടയില് സാധനം കണ്ട് നിര്ത്തി മേടിച്ചു.348 രൂപ.ഒരു പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കൂടാ .അവന് നമ്മളെ മോതലക്കി.അവനെ ശപിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് ഞാനും പേ ചെയ്തു. .നിന്റെ കട പൊളിഞ്ഞു പോട്ടേ.നീ പിച്ചയെടുകട്ടെ എന്ന് മനസുകൊണ്ട് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഞാന് പണം കൊടുത്തിറങ്ങി.അവന്റെ കട പോലിയട്ടെ.സന്ട്രോവിലെ എ/സി ഉഗ്രന്.നല്ല തണുപ്പേ പാലക്കാട്ടെ ചൂടിനു നല്ല ആശ്വാസം.സന്യലിന്റെ പോക്കറ്റ് നല്ല തേയ്മാനം.രണ്ടും ഞാന് ആലോചിച്ചു.നിതാക് വേണ്ടി.പിന്നെ അവനും വേണ്ടി എ/സി ഓടിക്കൊണ്ടിഎയിരുന്നു.സന്യലെട്ട സുപേരെ .എ/സി ഇട്ടിട്ടില്യെന്കിലും.സുപെരന്നെ എന്ന് സന്യാല് മനസിലാക്കുണ്ടാവും എന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാന് തോനുന്നു.നമ്മടെ സന്യലെട്ട.രേന്തെട്ട അവനെ പോട്ച്ചു.യാത്രയോഗ്യനകിയിരികുന്നു.ബാംഗില് തനുപല്ലേ.നേരേ ചെന്നാപിസരോടെ ചോദിച്ചു .ഇനവേ ബന്ഗ്ലോരിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോണം.എന്താ അതിനു പ്രോസിടുരെ. ഇന്നലെ വന്നന്വഷിച്ചപ്പോ ട്രെയിന് പോരപ്പെടുന്നതിനു ഒരു മണിക്കൂര് മുന്പ് വെരാന്പരഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.ഞങ്ങള്കൊരച്ചു വൈകി.സോറി.എന്താ ചെയ്യണ്ടാതെ. ആപീസര് പറഞ്ഞു, ഇനി പറ്റില്യ ..തിരിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് പൊയ് കോള് ..വണ്ടി ലാസ്റ്റ് സ്റ്റേഷന് വിട്ടു കാണും, ഇനി സ്ഥലം ഉണ്ടാവില്യ. നാളെ ഇനി കൊണ്ടുപോകാന് പട്ടുലോ.അയാള് തെരക്കുല്ലതുപോല്േ ഒന്നും എന്റര് ചെയ്യാത്ത രെസിഎപ്റ്റ് ബുക്കിന്റെ ഏടുകള് മരിച്ചു ..

അവന് കറുത്തിട്ടാണ്....ഇത്രയുംകരുപുള്ളവര് അവന്റെ വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് ഞാന് കന്ടിട്ടെയില്യ..ഇനിഇപ്പോ കൂടുതല് കറുപ്പ് ഉള്ളവരേയ് കണ്ട്ടല് പോലും അവന് തന്നെയാണ് കറുപ്പ് കൂടുതലെന്നേ ഞാന് പറയുള്ളൂ
..എന്റെ അനുഭവത്തില് എവന്റെ വര്ഗത്തിന് പടിക്ക് പോരതയിരുന്നു സ്ഥാനം.മനസ്സില് തീരേയ് സ്ഥലൂല്യ
..ഇപ്പോള് അവന് ഇടിച്ചു കേറി വീടിനും മനസിന്റുള്ളിലും ഒരച്ച സ്ഥനംപിടിചിരികുന്നു.ഇതയാരിഞ്ഞിട്ടു പോലും അവനെ സ്ഥാനമോഴിക്കാന് തോനുന്ന്ല്യ.ആവസ്യമില്ല്യ എന്നൊരു തോനാല്

ഉണ്ടാവന്റെ മുഖത്ത്..രഞ്ജിത്തിന്റെ വീട് മുട്ടടനുന്ജന് അവനെ കണ്ടത്.തീരേയ് പരിചയ ഭാവമില്യ
..ഇനി ആഭാവം ടെലെവോപ് ചെയ്യുകയുമില്ല്യ എന്നുള്ള അട്ടിടുടും.സന്ധയംയാങ്ങി..കക്കയുരും ഏതാനുരും ഒക്കെ ഇരുട്ടിറങ്ങി.രഗീതില് ശഭ്ധ കൊലോതാലം.ആദിത്യനും,അനിരുധനും, അമ്മുവും , അപ്പുവും ഒക്കെ ഒരു യാത്രയയപ്പിന്റെ തിരക്കില്...പാക്കിംഗ് തകൃതി..അവന് ഇന്ന് യാത്രയനെ..ബന്ങലോരിലേക്ക്. ഭക്ഷണമൊക്കെ കഴികച്ച്, 'ടോഇലെറ്റ്' പരിപാടി ഒക്കെ കഴിഞ്ഞേ..യാത്രയ്ക്കു പോരപ്പെടിവിക്കുകകയാണ് അവനെ..രഞ്ജിത്തിന്റെ അമ്മയും അച്ഛനും. അമ്മുവിന്മ നസിലായി അവനെ കൊണ്ട്പോകുകകയനെണ്ണ്അവള് പരക്കംപായാന് തൊടങ്ങി..മകന് പോകുകകയാണ്..പരിചയമുള്ളവ
തന്നേയ് പരനജയക്കുന്നു..കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു.എങ്ങിനെ വേണ്ടപരയും..വേണ്ട പറയാതിരിക്കും..
വെഷമം..അന്തരീക്ഷത്തില് ദുഃഖം മഴയ്ക്ക് മുമ്പുള്ളകാടടചിളില് പോലെ..വരാം പോവുന്ന
